Shaping Culture Makers at Innovate Academy
This spring marks the beginning of empowering families, friends and community advocates to educate ourselves alongside our incredible Innovate Academy scholars on an ongoing basis through readings and monthly dinners at Around The Table from 6:00-8:00 pm every second Wednesday.
It takes a village, and together we are shaping Culture Makers everyday! Our mission at Innovate Academy is to shape entrepreneurial leaders of culture and our tagline is: “Every Child a Culture Maker.” You might ask, “What is a Culture Maker and why should I care?” Andy Crouch coined the term in his book, Culture Making, urging us to reclaim the mandate in Genesis to be cultivators of Creation. Whether writing a song, making an omelet or creating laws for society, we are all called to create culture. In other words, rather than condemning culture or merely consuming it, we have the ability to influence it and make it better! People don’t want to constantly hear what NOT to do. They want to know what they CAN do! And everyone can create something good for others! An entrepreneurial leader of culture sees new opportunities and acts on them, and we are empowering our scholars at our school to do just that.
As a new school, we are developing opportunities for our scholars to lead as Culture Makers through service. One role that many of our scholars love is being a Safety, guiding younger ones to and from their cars or buses each day. Another role is a Storyteller, where older scholars create interactive stories from Bible, history, or literature for younger scholars and families to enjoy, using various artistic mediums. Currently, our Logic School scholars are creating devotional films around the book of Daniel. These will be sent out before Spring Break.
Similarly, our 5th graders will publish fairy tales and create play centers where Pre-K scholars can hear a read-aloud fairy tale with a moral theme and engage in interactive play, complete with puzzles, paper dolls, and homemade sets. Date TBD. How much more is a story remembered when the experience is hands-on!
Stay tuned for other service opportunities as scholars continue to explore their gifts, strengths, and passions as Culture Makers, and take their service outside our school walls and into the community at large!
